Center Base Program

Mercer County Head Start is a Federally funded program that provides opportunities for children to participate in school readiness activities and developmentally appropriate group and individual experiences.  Classes are scheduled four days per week (Monday-Thursday). The morning session is 8:00-11:30 and the afternoon session is 12:30-4:00.

The Mercer County Head Start staff believe parents are a child’s first and most important teacher.  We welcome parent suggestions and involvement throughout all aspects of the program as:

  • Classroom Volunteer
  • Bus Aide Volunteer
  • POPS Committee Member (Parents of PreSchoolers)
  • Policy Council Member Candidate, and
  • to complete Parent/Child Activities with their children
  • to participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences and Home Visits

Parent and family engagement opportunities are provided through the agency, assisting parents in learning more about family literacy, family health, nutrition at home, school readiness, family goal-setting, social service assistance and methods of involvement in the child’s education.  Parents can attend workshops and meetings to learn about a variety of topics, assist in program planning, and learn about how the Head Start program can assist families while enrolled.
